Holy. How'd I miss this before?

Anyway, what exactly are the "rules" for making a song? Say I took an old (probably non-copyrighted) song such as Old King Wenceslas, made EB-related lyrics for it, and sang along to music (the same song, Old King Wenceslas) that was done by some professional artist, is that something that'd fly? (provided that I could do it well enough, of course.) Or would I (or someone else from the site, say) have to be responsible for the music side of it, too? Or is such a "parody" type song right out, even though it's (very likely) public domain?

I used Sibelius three and Audacity; the reason I didn't use Sibelius' actual recording utility was because you missed out on the echo. Of course, now that I've figured it out, I need to find my Sibelius disk again, and that'll be a load of fun. . .

I'm not sure I really understand that. Are you using a microphone to record your speakers? If you are, try setting audacity to stereo mix instead, that should sound better.

Ow, dude, no offense, but you need to work on mixing. Those songs hurt my ears. =( When you're doing a song, try to make sure you adjust the overall level so that it doesn't go past the max and overdrive. Digital overdrive sounds horrible.

I mean, otherwise, it sounds good, but try to fix that.

I'm pretty sure the problem is the actual audio file. It overdrives no matter what master volume I have on. And I'm not using any EQ or anything with Winamp.

I'm sorry to sound like a noob, but could anyone link me to some recording FAQs, or some such?

I don't have a music studio, but would like to set up my own makeshift one. I find acoustic music infinitely better than digital, in any sense.

I also plan on buying a directional mic. In fact, I don't even have a cruddy mic. All I have is a computer mic, which doesn't even fit onto the scale.

If you're a Mac user, I can help you out... also, you don't really need a fancy setup. I record all my acoustic stuff through my iMac's pinhole mic, which works suprisingly well. Granted, I do have midi in, but it's pretty useless until I pony up some cash for a preprocessor.

http://starmen.net/forum/badges/forumbadge_rc_quality.gif MaxVDub - Your Level Up song is awesome. I like what you have, RC ready! Very Happy

http://starmen.net/forum/badges/forumbadge_rc_quality.gif Unlimited Lumpia - excellent work. Happy Happy is already going on RC 2. Defeated Courage and Threed Sled will go on furtre tracks. I would suggest a little more of a easing of presentation in the beginning of first few moments of Threed Sled because it comes BURSTING out of tha gates. I love that, but that might be a bit abrupt for CD and audio listening for others.

Pinstipdiva - The AB Simles and Tears song sounds too technically composed and horns sound off for some reason. It sounds a little dow in mood. I would try to cheer up the mood more with the song. It's suppose to be a happier song.

http://starmen.net/forum/badges/forumbadge_rc_quality.gif theReverendAG - The Lonely Winter Soundstone Freezup sounds very nice, but there is quite a bit of over string sliding sound effects in the beginning of the piece. If you can avoid that it would be prefered, but if you can't that's ok.

CarbonDog - Star of Twoson is a too digital in presentation with what it is trying to accomplish. The piano seems a little abrupt and the chorus feels like there could be a better solution for that part of the song. The composition is nice and Like the different foreground instruments used.

http://starmen.net/forum/badges/forumbadge_rc_quality.gif Electrospecter - Winter Ambience is a great song, quality work. Definitely RC bound.

http://starmen.net/forum/badges/forumbadge_rc_quality.gif PsiHeroNess - Winter of 1989 is a great song for the nostalgic presentation that you give, I would add a little more variety or something new to the second repeat of the song to keep the listening wanting to hear the full song instead of expecting the same iteration. It is a very nice song and RC worthy but I feel it could a bit better! Smile

http://starmen.net/forum/badges/forumbadge_rc_quality.gif Stevesesy - Winters and Winters Redux are nice and a good start. You need to be a little less harsh with the piano and let it flow more or add something to allow it to be a little more softening. The nature of this particular tune doesnt go well with the straight forward piano key hits. Goodnight is really good but there are parts that are sounding a little too technical such as the background ambience and and the organ-like sounds. There must be something to soften the transitions between notes to mask the digital nature of this composition. In the Rain is doing good, I really like the piano in this work but the same ambience problem is persisting here as in the other ones.

bstring - Both Dance of the Moon Kangaroos and Freedom Song have heavy percussion and should tone it down a bit. I love the guitar on Freedom song, it is really good. The Moon Kanga one needs to have the purcussion lessened and other music brought more up to the foreground.

http://starmen.net/forum/badges/forumbadge_rc_quality.gif JustinB - Fire Fire, Hirake Goma Doufu, Twoson and Open Seasame Tofu are harsh technos. Fire Fire and Twoson would come the closest to becoming accepted, but I think it still they are pretty boom boom boom when presenting themselves. I am warming up to Twoson more and more as well as Fire Fire.

http://starmen.net/forum/badges/forumbadge_rc_quality.gif BenSpinSpace - Fourside Piano is a great song, no improvements needed!

The retired songs were retired for one of three reasons
          • They were originally made by Nintendo (from games like SSBM or Mother 64)
          • The quality of the submission didnt hold up over the years. The bar has been raised and they just didnt hold up.
          • They were requested by the artist to be removed for improvements or just personal preference for their song not to be hear at this time.

Will they ever be released, maybe the songs of #2 point on the list. The Official Nintendo ones get released as bonus tracks on special RC events but they will never be officially be a part of RC. RC is now officially 100% pure fan made. Some of the artists may redo some of their older tracks.

Also some of the tracks from previous albums that were say, part of RC1 but aree not now, they may be a part of later RC albums. The songs just got rearranged to allow for some newer tunes to make it on all the albums evenly as possbile.

I am actually looking forward to a song remix of Threed and the alien/zombie threat that is in the town. I hoping to have a remix of them done in style with sound effects and instuments similar to two songs below.

These are two songs both from the same game (Banjo-Tooie), they are some of my favorite n64 VG tracks.

          Witchyworld - Main Theme
          Witchyworld - Space Zone

I really like the old sci-fi SFX in the space zone and the old organ and circus instruments and sounds in the main theme. It would be great to mix the two since both themes somewhat apply to the Threed Scene with zombies, aliens, and the circus.

Stevesesy. Make remodeledpig longer. It's too awesome but it could be 1000% awesome if it were longer. Seriously, this is awesome. Awesome job.

I should note that I am not making comments hoping that other people will make comments (like Jeffman above). This community is about multiple feedback so I want to encourage that! Smile

And the attached file is a Threed remix with some old creepy sounds and such to Jonk's specifications.

Hm. I don't think you quite hit what Jonk was aiming for. I think he was trying go for more of an emphasis on the 'circus' element rather than the eerie SFX for the song, since there actually is a circus located in Threed. Either way, your song is still pretty solid in its own right; maybe just expand it a little more at it'll be good to go. Wink

edit - ...Oh wow, you know now that I think about it, a circus-themed Threed song actually might be pretty interesting! *..Inspiration!* I might have to try my hand at this when I have some free time.
