t_o_k's knolage: The History

There seems to be a lack in fan submissions in all areas of SM.net so I decided that I should do something about it and write an article, seeing as how I have no artistic or musical skills what-so-ever. Enough about me on to the article. I decided to tell the history of the EB online community, as I remember it.

In the beginning there was nothing, and then came reidman. In the early years the only "well developed" EB site was "You Are Now EarthBound". It was pretty cool except that you had to either rely on frames, or a large image map at the bottom of the page to navigate. This is where I first learned about EarthBound Zero and the history of Mother in Japan. At the same time there were other small sites in existance like "Carpainter's EarthBound Page" and "Spawnoft's EarthBound Site". Both sites are still in existance and can probably be found through a search engine. There is still a Carpainter around, but I don't think he is same one. Spawnoft or Spaanoft as he is now known, went on to produce "EB Lite" "Seek Tag" and "PKHack".

Then enter Tomato. Reid and Tomato got together and started up EarthBound.net. At it's time of origin the site was pretty sad compared to SM.net. It had a left bar with links and a purple main bar with a picture of Mook on it. From here time kinda blurs. EB.net gets bigger and bigger and several small sites start up and die. At about this time earthbound64.net started up and the online EB community grew rapidly. How ever as years passed waiting for EB64 passed "EarthBound64.net" closed down and things were looking bleak for the EB community. Sometime in here EBVortex really took off as a major fan site and EB.net became SM.net. Now rumors about EB64 began to brew again as the game was beginning to receive real progress. Then of course our hopes were temporarly crushed as Nintendo stated the EB64 would arrive late because they were apllying a new GFX engine inherited from Pokemon Stadium (version 1 from japan, not released in U.S.). Later Moonside.net started up and SM.net split in two. Right about now the EB community exploded with members and as quick as it built up, the whole thing collapsed.

Then along came the EB64 petition and NP seige II, the last hope for EB64 which was ultimately lost. However a change is coming and I predict that a Mother game for Game Boy Advance, and a huge boom in the community are on the horizon.

Well I guess that's it for my first article. Look for a new one next week, until than make some content NOW! He He He.
