Sharing the Gospel of EB: Geekboy's tale of Mighty Victories and Great Defeats!

I remember it like it was yesterday, I downloaded a little known game off the internet to test my new Snes emulater, untill then I thought that Earthbound 64 was going to be a stand alone game, but obviously I was wrong. It didnt take long for me to realize that I was playing quite possibly one of the greatest games to ever come out. After beating the game a number of times I sat down and thought "now what more is there to do?" well I thought up an idea, to show it to my friends!

Before long I had my best friend sitting down and playing it. His first reaction was a negative one (the ever popular "this game has bad graphics" excuse). It took him some time to acctually say that he was enjoying it. I expected him to ether go and buy it or download the rom, but alas niether happened and it seemed like he was lost to the experiance that comes from playing a work of art such as this. Determined to find someone who would enjoy Earthbound I got another friend to sit down and see it (he said he wouldnt play it). His first reaction was negative but never the less funny, "Is this an NES game?!". After that he wouldnt give Eathbound another go, in fact he has kind of teased me about liking that game, but I will never give up! This friend has a habit of passing judgment on games too quickly (he has done that to many games which he now admits they are good, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, Silent hill, Metroid, ect.). Once again I had to settle for playing my favorite game, alone, in the dark *shudders*.

When all hope seemed lost a light shot through the darkness of impossibility! I finally met a person who knew what Earthbound was! Huzzah! I met a guy named Shane Baze! Yeah big woop right? Wrong! This guy is the coolest of the cool, he was at the top of the popularity latter (if you can even call it that) at my school. Around this time I discovered the wounder that is Starmen.net, looking for a way to show off my favorite video game, I printed out the very fine pictures that Starmen.net had of various characters and enemies from Earthbound. I hastly taped them to my binder and went on my way. At school the only person who knew what was on my binder was Shane Baze, one of the most popular kids in my school! He couldnt believe that there was another EB fan at my school and told me an ear full about the game. After this many of the people in my class went and played the game (I dont know if I had anything to do with it, but when the most popular guy says something is cool, people listen.).

After Shane Baze left the EB fad at my school kinda went belly up before it picked up much steam and again I was left to spread the good gospel of EB to a world full of people who were completly ignorent of what could be the greatest thing ever made. After countless trys without success (all of my friends seemed to have a unwillingness to play it, no matter how many times I bothered them.), I finally thought I would give up the ghost and find something else, more constructive for me to do, when I met another possible EB addict, this time it wasnt in the form of a popular guy, but a rather strange next door neighbor, some of you know him as "wario" on the fourms. Anyway I finally had a breakthrough, one of my friends played the game and acctually had a positive reaction to Earthbound! Although wario's main reason for liking Earthbound, I suspect, is the fact that it was made by Nintendo, I still believe that he loves this game (although it hasnt taken over his life, rest assured, I will not stop untill he is posting on starmen.net at least once a day.). That is about it, I am still taking converts to this strange and wounderful religion... I mean game, so I anyone who reads this feels something missing in their lives I urge them to pray to the mighty Gods, Tomato, Reid, and Itoi. Then go and pick up and play/replay Earthbound and feel peace my brothers and sisters. Fore the time that a new Earthbound game is drawing near and we need to be prepaired for it!
