Preach, UG. One of the biggest drawbacks of the Switch, in my opinion, is the total lack of customization in comparison to the 3DS. The home menu is totally blank with neat light mode and, get this, dark mode options!!! Without the cool/atmosphere music Nintendo consoles are known for…

3DS felt like you had a desktop in your pocket. The Switch is amazing, don’t get me wrong, but it was sad to see the Nintendo spirit just die out. One more thing – EVEN THE ESHOP. Remember how much personality the Wii Shopping Channel had? Still referenced and memed upon this day. Even the Wii U era eShop had more charm than the silent and laggy menus we have today.

I have to say, I think the 3DS is still my favorite system Nintendo ever made. It had SO much more charm than the Switch ever had. The customizable features like the ability to change backgrounds, add folders, access access the internet, even watch netflix and youtube all contributed to make it feel like MY system. Not just a system that I own.

I know cutting down on the UI elements a lot helps the Switch run much much faster but… I don’t know. I never felt the 3DS was laggy.

I still play quite often on my 2DS. Though as for the Switch I almost always play it on the TV, (largely due to the fact that all of our Joycons are either broken or drifty). If the Joycons weren’t so dodgy I think I’d play it handheld significantly more. (Also, LET’S GO!! Little Nightmares mention!)

I play my switch almost exclusively in handheld mode. Like, the only time I really play it on the TV is if me and wifey are playing a game together. Like when we were playing the Little Nightmares series. Otherwise I’m playing cuddled up on the couch or on the futon in the office, or more often, at my desk at work.
