What Game software to make Fan Game « Fan Games and Programs « Forum

I’m new to this forum and I’m new to making video games. I’ve been a writer for quite some time and I’ve wanted to try and put my imagination into a fan game that others would like to play. It would be along the same lines as the mother series in gameplay since it’s gonna be a fan game but obviously with its own story line. It’s a project that I’m starting on my own since it’s something that I’ve wanted to do for a while now. Any help I what software is best suitable for a 2D rpg please and help would be great and I figure this would be the best place to ask amongst other like minded individuals. Thank you all for your time.

If you want something easily accessible for JRPGs, I’d suggest any variant of RPG Maker (there are many different but good ones to pick from so you may want to do some research). It usually costs a chunk of change though. For general game development with complete control (that’s also free), I’d suggest using Unity. The problem with Unity however, is its learning curve as it requires a decent bit of programming and interface know-how. Luckily, there are a plethora of resources online to help you learn how to use it, including Unity’s very own website and forums.

I would suggest Gamemaker Studio 2, it’s good for 2d stuff, but I am unfortunately still learning how to code using it.
Games like Undertale, and Forager were made with it, and it is fully capable of rpgs. It also has it’s own sprite editor/maker, which I very much like. There is a free trial for trying it out, but you can’t export what you make with the free trial.

Thank you so much for your help guys or girls no means to offend. Someone mentioned to me coiled snake as well or something like that. I’m hoping by next summer between work and doing everything g myself and working diligently I will have a little trailer out. I’ll be on here as I live earthbound and everything mother and shigesatos imagination has to offer so again I greatly appreciate everyone’s help. Seems I’ll have to download gamemaker off of steam since it’s not working on the yoyo games website.
