I was reading a post that had been last updated a few months ago featuring some old users catching up, and I came across references to a series of fangames called Rescue Reidman. I want to play these, but they are all .exe files that I can’t run on my chromebook and for some reason I can’t switch my refurbished chromebook to Linux. Is there anybody with the passion and the lack of anything better to do who could ake these games playable for the generations to come who will be stranded without Windows, or am I to just give up hope?

This is very rude of me but honestly my first instinct is to laugh, the thought of getting any ol’ exe to be successfully ported to whatever the heck chromebooks run is absurd to me.

I am legitimately sorry cause I’ve experienced similar pain myself but I also really freaking hate chromebooks, this being one of the reasons

That said don’t chromebooks run Android stuff or something like that? I’m sure there’s some form of a virtual machine you could manage with.

I was going to say you could get Linux, then WINE, then run the EXEs, but you said it won’t run Linux. I suggest you look into the Linux issue and see if it’s solvable.

Every anniversary I’ll pay respects and say I’m sorry

When no one knows what it’s like to be us

Weirdly enough, I’m a pomegranate.

linux takes up a lottttt of space on chromebooks. They can’t hold the storage that windows and stuff like that can.

I live on comedy.

One day I’ll probably die from too much of it.

If I can’t play this game then we need a site even where the series gets streamed.

did you know there's an easter egg in the rules? it contributes nothing and is just silly, but I bet it remained a secret!

There are websites like Coolmathgames that have the games directly on the site. I have no clue how that is set up but I imagine something similar could be done to Rescue Reidman.

Strike that! Reverse it!

Speaking as someone who’s published a game on coolmathgames (/shameless plug), unfortunately, games have to be written for the web specifically to play in a browser without some serious tech wizardry. I doubt this is something you could get running in the browser without some porting effort being involved.

Those games were made in flash (long ago) and in modern times in JavaScript, HTML, and some other web languages. They work because that’s the language they were made in in the first place.

I’ve seen Earthbound, Mother 3, and even the Halloween Hack on game websites.
So I guess the only way is to port it if that’s what you’re saying.

Those were made possible with emulators, same way you can play snes games on a modern computer. The emulator was written in the web language and then the snes rom is loaded into that.

Theoretically that is possible with this exe but it’s really not. It’s already harder emulating anything more intensive, like Wii games, and good luck ever getting a Wii game emulated in a browser. A windows exe? Not gonna happen.

However, it’s not all that far off from what the proper solution to this is, which as Blue already said doesn’t work for him: running it in Linux. Boots mentioned WINE, which is essentially an emulator used for running programs made for other operating systems. But Veryblue can’t get Linux working, so he can’t run wine.
