Mother – Inversion
A fan game that I’m currently making in Game Maker Studio 2 because that’s the only engine I know how to use and starting in square one in CoilSnake seems a bit intimidating right now. The reason it’s called Mother – Inversion is because the Mother series is riddled with terrible or nonexistent father figures and this game is about… a father.
Recent widower and main character Alain was recently abducted by an alien species as he was forced to raise one of their young. With this child, he sees that he is given a new chance in life but he decides to do so on his terms. Child in arms, Alain escapes the spaceship and flees to earth, unknowingly bringing psychic powers with him. Said alien species, angry that Alain took their progeny and also the secrets to their psychic abilities, decided to set up an invasion of Earth.
Alain- A recent grieving widower who has lost his wife and his potential child. With this grief he is emotionally distant, choosing to hide away and never feel that pain again. (Main protagonist)(Functions kind of like Brad Armstrong in “Lisa the Painful”)
Lemire- The alien child that is taken into the custody of Alain whose mind will be molded by the actions of the group. I want Lemire to be what Giugue, or however you spell his name, could’ve been.(Grows up as the story progresses)
Cathie- She is also the smartest of the group giving the team helpful gadgets and tips in battle. I personally want her to be a more eccentric character, the one who thoroughly believes in conspiracy theories and now with proof that aliens exist she goes full mad scientist for the group. Yes, she has a cone hat made of tin foil that she constantly wears and yes, it will slightly weaken psychic attacks against her. (Think Jeff or Lloyd)
Pat- The (second) youngest but somehow the strongest psychic of the team, having the most powerful techniques until Lemire matures. He’s mostly here because it’s summer vacation and he doesn’t have anything better to do. Every now and again he gets homesick and will stop fighting, so call his parents and check up on them every now and again. (Think Poo or Kumatora with a small mix of Ness)
Now, the game is in development and when I say that, I mean it’s still a Google doc and I don’t have any official sprites (I’m using Lucas as a placeholder). Can you blame me? I’m an author and coder before I’m an artist. But still, I’m just throwing this out there and if anyone wants to help, throw me a message, my door is always open. I will try to update this as often as I update the game and because I don’t have school, that should be often enough.
And to prove that I’m actually working on this and not just pulling yalls legs:
Some code and a video of me executing said code that should be somewhere on this post.
Now to be completely fair, I only recently left the idea phase and this is a solo thing so far so don’t expect it to be some ultimate demo reel sent by God. I’m not that good (or remotely half good).
