Things are going well! The project continues to move forward, it’s been great seeing the amount of hard work going into the project.

Yes, things are still very much in development. I’ll start trying to keep this thread updated on progress now that I am involved.
A lot of what goes on day-to-day is related to sprite work on the project. The team has been collaboratively improving their approach and the look of the game has changed pretty significantly since the original screenshots posted on this thread.
For example, here is a look at how the Skating Punk shark battle sprite has changed over the last few months:
Also, to get a glimpse at how the visual style has evolved, here is a shot of an iconic scene:
The style has been really impressive, and the team has really wanted to make a style that is unique but still looks more modern and updated. I think it’s turning out really well. The sprite work is top notch.
On the coding side of things, we’re working on developing the core systems of the game. So far the dialogue system is working really well and the battle system is in progress but has come a long way in the last month. Stuff like this can be pretty tedious and slow, especially when you’re working on the project in your spare time, but it’s definitely coming along!

Hey! Sorry for the lack of updates here. The project is still very much in progress (I was just working on some code for it this morning!). Here are a few neat things from the last couple months:
Here is the inventory system! Pretty similar to Mother 2 with a dash of Mother 3 added in there.
At this point the item system basics are all in place. I worked on that in July and things have come a long way since.

As for updates from me more directly, working on coding this game is a really relaxing, enjoyable thing for me. A fun side project, for sure. All the systems I’m working on feel like a huge step forward right now, and the game is shaping up beautifully (at least in my opinion). I’m having fun thinking of how to add Quality of Life improvements while respecting all the things that make EarthBound great. And I know everybody says that with remakes, but we kind of get the benefit of seeing what worked well in Mother 3 and implementing a lot of that here, as well as other RPG innovation that has happened since EarthBound was released.
I don’t know if y’all are still taking suggestions, but I thought I’d add in my two cents. Something that always bugged me about the OG EarthBound was the fact that Electro Specter and Thunder and Storm, used the Kraken boss theme instead of the usual Sanctuary Guardian boss theme. It always sort of made them feel like more minor bosses compared to the other Your Sanctuary bosses. I was sort of just wondering if you were planning to replace the Kraken boss theme with the Sanctuary Guardian boss theme for those two, though it’s fine if you aren’t.
Also this looks amazing and I can’t wait to play this when it comes out! You all are doing a wonderful job!
