Mr. Saturn sprite [GAME] Shippo Quest

sprite ErikMouse

Hey there, I have been working on this game of mine in RPG Maker 2000 for a while now and finally finished up to the point where I have screen shots for you. The game is called Shippo Quest, but there is Earthbound characters and stuff in it. There is no beta of the game yet, but that will come in due time. Anyway, I'll tell you a little about this game. It is about Shippo, that kawaii (cute) character from Inu Yasha. Don't worry, I know that this is an Earthbound forum, so naturally I am focusing on Earthbound stuff in here as well. Shippo starts out running from a battle somewhere, that is between his father and the Thunder Brothers, which is unseen as it shows only Shippo going down a path to a well. Shippo ends up falling down the well and through a void between worlds before ended up in an underground sewer like place.

There is no way he can go back up the way he can, as there is no hole in the ceiling. So, Shippo just explores the area and soon comes out on a hill after following some corridors. Once on the hill, Shippo heads off it and finds a sign pointing towards a place called "Todd Forest Haven" and heads in that direction. Just as Shippo comes into Todd Forest Haven, he notices a pure white crystal in the nearby corner of it (matter of fact there is a pure white crystal in all four corners of it) before there is a sudden yellow-orange flash followed by the crystals suddenly turning yellow-orange. After the flash, Shippo is suddenly met by a boy wearing blue and a girl wearing red. They ask where Shippo came from, and Shippo explains that he is just lost.

At first, they offer Shippo a place to stay here, but the girl realizes about the change in the crystals' color and tells the boy. Then they learn that Shippo is a kitsune fox boy and remember that their grandpa said that kitsune are mostly good folk. The boy and girl decide to take Shippo to another spot in the Todd Forest Haven where there is a pool of water to cleanse Shippo. Here, the boy and girl introduce themselves as Erik and Alice amd then take Shippo to a house there to introduce him to Pippi. Shippo askes about the crystals and Pippi answers that they are for protection and tells Shippo her story about why she had to leave Poduck (in EB0) by Ness and ended up there with crystals protecting her.

After Pippi tells her story, Ness shows up and has gotten bad news from Erik and Alice's mother on the way there. The bad news is that something has happened to Erik and Alice's dad at the nearby mine and Shippo with Ness will have to go there to check it out. And from there, the story starts to unfold on what they have to do. I am still focusing on what's to happen and I *might* have Ness leave the party for Pippi if I have a real reason for something major happening with the crystal protection. Just right now I am just pondering thoughts and ideas of what will happen next.

Okay, and now for the screen shots of the game in progress. This first screen shot is of the title of the game.

This next screen shot is of the intro.

    http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l144/erikmouse/gamescreenshots/SQ0002.gif

This next screen shot is of Shippo heading down the path towards the well. I am just currently using one of the chipsets that came with RPG Maker 2000. And the Shippo sprite, I got that from someone by the name of MandyKitsune, which I will be giving them credit for.

    http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l144/erikmouse/gamescreenshots/SQ0003.gif

The next screen shot is of Shippo at the well. The face of Shippo here is of one that I have created from an image of Shippo I got from somewhere.

    http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l144/erikmouse/gamescreenshots/SQ0004.gif

This next screen shot is of Shippo falling through the vold between worlds. I just created a starry background to use for that and having the background pan upward to give the look of falling. The background sound effect is of a .wav of the sound of the continuum that you here when you are time traveling in Chrono Trigger. I had a good wormhole .avi to use here, but the background sound effect would not play while the .avi was playing. So I had to change ideas there and go with the starry background instead.

    http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l144/erikmouse/gamescreenshots/SQ0005.gif

This next screen shot is of Shippo in the sewer and finding no hole in the ceiling where he fell in from. Again, I used a chipset that came with RPG Maker 2000.

    http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l144/erikmouse/gamescreenshots/SQ0006.gif

This next screen shot is of Shippo finding the only chest down here with his first weapon of the game.

    http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l144/erikmouse/gamescreenshots/SQ0007.gif

This next screen shot is of Shippo finding the way out of the sewer.

    http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l144/erikmouse/gamescreenshots/SQ0008.gif

This next screen shot is of Shippo on the hill outside the sewer exit. Again, I used a chipset that came with RPG Maker 2000.

    http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l144/erikmouse/gamescreenshots/SQ0009.gif

This next screen shot is of Shippo heading away from the hill and finding a sign pointing to the Todd Forest Haven to the north. The chipset that I have here is a forest one that I have gotten from somewhere else and the creator of it will be getting credit. Here, he decides to head there (you lose control of Shippo now as he goes there, to keep the player from wandering off track to places he/she shouldn't be going just yet.

    http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l144/erikmouse/gamescreenshots/SQ0010.gif

This next screen shot is of Shippo coming into the Todd Forest Haven and the yellow-orange flash happens with the crystals turning yellow-orange.

    http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l144/erikmouse/gamescreenshots/SQ0011.gif

This next screen shot is of Shippo meeting Erik and Alice for the first time. The sprites and faces that I am using for them are the ones of two of the kids that originally came with RPG Maker 2000. I decided to use those because it was too tricky doing my own sprites.

    http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l144/erikmouse/gamescreenshots/SQ0012.gif

This next screen shot is of Shippo getting cleansed in the pool with a white flash happening, changing the crystals back to normal.

    http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l144/erikmouse/gamescreenshots/SQ0013.gif

This next screen shot is of Shippo meeting Pippi for the first time. The Pippi sprite that I have came from the list of EB0 sprites in EB Snes style to be imported into the EB Snes rom using PK Hack utilities, that used to be at this URL, but what happened to them?

    http://hippohome.net/_/sprites/

Luckily, I did get the Pippi sprites from this URL when it was still working. I think that Earthbrent did them, so probably should ask Earthbrent what happened to them. The head for Pippi, I have made from the Pippi artwork of SaturnStorm, located here. I will also make sure that SaturnStorm gets credit, unless they have a complaint about this.

The screen shot with Pippi here

    http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l144/erikmouse/gamescreenshots/SQ0014.gif

This next screen shot is of... you should know who this boy is, he is the main character of the Earthbound Snes game... who just came on the scene.

    http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l144/erikmouse/gamescreenshots/SQ0015.gif

This next screen shot is of the face being used for Ness. And the face for him came from whoever did these four that I will also give credit for.

    http://www.rpgfan.com/pics/eb/art.html

    The screen shot

    http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l144/erikmouse/gamescreenshots/SQ0016.gif

This next screen shot is of Shippo going the wrong way and being told that she should go north instead of south. It also shows that the crystals are pure white again.

    http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l144/erikmouse/gamescreenshots/SQ0017.gif

And this last screen shot of the party menu with the party of being Shippo and Ness.

    http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l144/erikmouse/gamescreenshots/SQ0018.gif

Now, there is some music that I wanted to use with this from a couple of different agains where I have exported the SPC files (six of them) and have them converted into .wav files. Unfortunately, each .wav file is around 60 Megs and I just found that putting them in a .rar archieve puts the .rar archieve over 260 Megs in size, too big for FireCrunch.com. So, I am not sure how to handle this problem. Also, I have an SPC2MIDI converter that I was trying to use, but they end up being off after the convertion since that it seems to only use Grand Piano and Drum as the intruments in the midi. And when I try to look at that problem in that convertor, I see what looks like a bunch of hexidecimal numbers in it that I don't seem to understand. Hopefully someone here knows how to properly use this to get it to come out right.

Also, while I was looking around here, I came across some ideas where I was interested in the Magicant chipset that is shown in http://starmen.net/forum/?t=msg&th=35921 made by Flamin-P according to that topic. And I was a bit interested in what appeared to be Mother 2 stuff in Mother 3 graphics, shown in http://starmen.net/forum/?t=msg&th=34478 which looks like Ranger's work. So if Ranger or Flamin-P happens to be reading this topic, I was wondering if I could use the chipsets in my RPG Maker 2000. And if it is okay and I do get them, I'll make sure you also get credit where credit is due.

And I think this should do it for now, I'll keep you posted on any updates.

Hi there, sorry for the wait for an update to this. I just got back from a week long vacation to Ocean City, Maryland. Right now, even though I have opened RPG Maker 2000 to look at the game I was working on, I am currently stuck in a bit of a post beach depression that is keeping me from doing much at the moment. If you aren't sure how that is, imagine having Ness go from Onett, to a place like Summers, then back to Onett, and instead of him having home sickness, its beach sickness. Not sure you got that, but I hope you do. Anyway, as for this game, Shippo Quest, I hope to start up more work on it soon.

Hm. If you ever have time to tweak the sprites, go ahead and turn them either one style or the other- the EB sprites look out of place.

Other than that, it seems pretty basic fare, and (hopefully) well programmed. Keep it up!

          sprite ErikMouse

Well, I have not have any experience with tweaking sprites. But if someone here feels like tweaking sprites or messing around with the sprites, or wants to give me a .rar containing sprites and whatnot, they can and I will decide whether or not I will have any use for them.

Man, what is that, 2 thousand screenshots? I feel like I've already played the game! Razz

              No, but seriously, good work.

That was not two thousand screen shots, and the screen shots are not the whole game to the point it is at, at the moment. And you will be able to get to test play the game once I get to the point of releasing a beta of it.
