Security wherever you go...
We all like EarthBound (if you don't, you got nothing to do here, so get out!). A reason I think of this love would be that in the game, wherever you go, you'll find a nice place to sleep, or just to relaxe.
It may sound weird, but aren't we all searching for security, confort, and goodness in life? It's an universal research. So, why wouldn't be the same thing in video games? Anyway, isn't precisly the first goal of EarthBound? To kick Giygas' butt (if he have one), just to regain world's confort, security, nice atmosphere?
In fact, wherever you go in Eagleland, you'll find a place to rest, even in the darkest places. Onett has Ness' house, Twoson has Paula's house, Lost Underworld has Magicant. Event the Cave of the Past has the small area surrounding the Phase Distorter! And think about the sanctuaries! They all represents a smal area where you're sure you find rest and tranquillity.
All that to say that we may like EB because it's one of the only games where we can find a substitute to reality, and take some peaceful rest, for a change. Anyways, that's what I think, and that's why I like EB so much...
p.s.: By the way, it's my first article, so if you want to comment my tought and writing style, you may, but don't be too harsh.
